NETFLIX
fri Education
Sex Education was the fifth most watched series on Netflix in Brazil in 2019 and for a reason: it's too good. Otis, the main character, is a reclusive boy and in his own way, but thanks to his mother Dr. Jeane has a vast knowledge about sex – her mother, who doesn't mince her words, is a sex therapist. And it is with this knowledge and the help of his friend Maeve that he opens a kind of sexual consultancy at his school – and in the midst of it all, there is a lot of laughter, but a lot of reflection and drama. Of those series that you sit down to watch an episode and watch 5, you know?! There are two seasons with 8 episodes each.
Sense8
One of Netflix's biggest hits in Brazil, Sense8 tells the story of eight completely different characters who are mentally and emotionally connected. Each in a different part of the world, with their own culture, but with a giant link between them – which allows them to communicate, talk to each other and use each other's knowledge (including languages). The story is very intense, the script is sensational and, even though things take time to make sense (you'll start to understand things by the second episode), every episode is worth it. There are two seasons with 12 episodes each, all watered with a lot of emotions, action, feelings, hormones and everything else that a good series is entitled to.
3%
First Brazilian production on Netflix, 3% is an incredible dystopian series, with a very well written script, reminding us of the power of Brazilian creatives. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, where people live on the Continent, a disastrous environment with a lack of food, energy and water. In contrast, there is another place – Maralto – where all of this exists in abundance and people can have a dignified life, but for that they need to go through the Process, in which only 3% can join the wealthy population. The script is surprising, the locations are incredible and it's no wonder that it has become one of the most successful productions in Latin America on Netflix worldwide. 3% have 3 seasons, with 26 episodes in total.
Most beautiful thing
Another national Netflix production, Coisa Mais Linda is named after the “Girl from Ipanema”, one of the most famous songs in history. Set in the 60s and 70s, the series tells the story of Maria Luíza, a woman abandoned by her husband who decides to move to Rio de Janeiro and open her own business – a bar and concert hall just at the time of the emergence of Bossa Nova. . In addition to being a very fun series, it brings very good discussions to its script, such as feminism and racism.
AMAZON PRIME
Hunters
Launched in February 2020 on Amazon Prime, Hunters takes place in New York in the 1970s and tells the story of a group of hunters of… Nazis. This group discovers that covert Nazis are planning to create a Fourth Reich in the United States and takes steps to hunt them down and prevent them, in parallel with the discoveries that the American government itself took several of Nazi Party scientists to the US after World War II. . Crazy, right? The series is incredible, with only 10 episodes and a sensational story, with a lot of strategy, espionage, blood and the legendary Al Pacino, the eternal Michael Corleone of The Godfather, in the lead role.
Fleabag
Starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fleabeg tells the story of the character with the same name as the actress, a confused, angry young woman with a very lively sex life. It's a mix of comedy and drama that amuse you and make time pass quickly. One of the coolest things about the series is that it makes you feel like you're inside it: the character speaks directly to the camera in several moments. There are two seasons with 6 episodes each, each lasting up to 30 minutes. You can see it in one shot!
This Is Us
A tear-jerking drama, This Is Us tells the story of three brothers who were born on the same day, each dealing with their personal problems in the midst of it all. One is an actor tired of shallow roles; the other, who is actually adopted, struggles to reconnect with his father who abandoned him; the sister struggles with her problems with obesity and self-esteem. With incredible performances, tear-jerking problems and a sensational script, addressing issues that are super sensitive nowadays, each of the episodes of the 3 seasons available on Amazon Prime Video is worth it.
The Boys
Imagine a world where people with superpowers are celebrities. It could be really cool, but it could go really wrong, right? After all, we've already seen, in fiction and in real life, how bad it is for a person to have fame and power at the same time. And it is precisely to prevent bigger problems from happening that there are The Boys, a CIA group responsible for surveilling and containing these new heroes. Taking the name of the group, the series is a great choice for those who like superheroes, espionage and a little comedy.

HBO GO
Euphoria
Adaptation of an Israeli miniseries of the same name, Euphoria premiered on HBO in 2019 and was a huge success with audiences and critics. The series follows a group of teenagers discovering themselves as individuals and brings super important and pertinent discussions for today and the current generation. Gender issues, identity, sexual discoveries and drug use are addressed throughout its 8 episodes, which, in addition to being incredible, are very aesthetically beautiful. Get ready for a show of incredible performances, clothes and makeup, and a story that keeps you hooked in every episode.
Chernobyl
The accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant changed history in many ways, and the HBO miniseries is about this disastrous episode. With only 5 episodes, it follows the beginning of the disaster and all the people responsible for trying to contain it, and later the story of the people who took responsibility for it. For those who enjoy a good historical drama, with a foot in science (and also in fiction), it's a great request to know a little more about this emblematic incident in contemporary history.
Six Feet Under
This is the oldest series on the list, but more than 10 years after it ended, it's still incredible. Six Feet Under tells the story of the Fisher family members, who own a cemetery in the city of Los Angeles. But far beyond a family drama – and that is a lot, with laughter and tears alternating in every scene, – it is a series that causes reflections on subjects such as nature and human mortality. There are 5 seasons with 63 episodes in total, so get ready to embark on a journey that will be worth every second.
Westworld
Of the dystopian series airing today, this is without a doubt the most acclaimed – and with good reason. In 2058, a park called Westworld receives visitors daily to see the human-shaped androids that are in the place. They are programmed to respond to visitors as if they were humans until one fateful day they begin to become self-aware… And then you see, right? It's a clash between technology and humans with a lot of action and twists, with even a little existentialism. Worth a lot!
GLOBOPLAY
Killing Eve
A British agent obsessed with capturing a French enemy, also obsessed with the agent - in a story that feels like love but is actually pure investigation. Now imagine two women with very strong personalities and absurd intelligence in the role of these characters. Ah, the investigator is none other than Sandra Oh, famous for being Cristina Yang on Grey's Anatomy, and the villain is the award-winning Jodie Comer. Do I need to give you more reasons to watch this incredible series of investigations, murders and everything else that is interesting about espionage?! If you need to: there are only 2 seasons with 8 electrifying episodes each.
American Horror Story
Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Lady Gaga and the award-winning Jessica Lange. Throw together this cast with incredible scripts and disturbing, but tightly wound, stories – and you have American Horror Story. On the air for almost 10 years, each of the 9 seasons is completely independent of the others, telling a different horror story. There's a serial killer, a freak show, a haunted house, a witches' clan and a bunch of disturbing and absurdly interesting stories that will keep you awake @ – either out of fear or wanting to see everything soon.
The Handmaid's Tale
In this dystopian story, the United States went through a Second Civil War, which caused a severe change in American society. The State then became completely guided by scriptures that put women in positions of inferiority, as well as the poorest populations. Women became, over time, infertile, and those who could reproduce were made “servants”. In this post, they get pregnant and give birth to the children of rich families, to later change families and follow the same cycle. A very uncomfortable series, with a peculiar way of treating feminism, racism and classism in our society and how much it can influence our future.
