A property rich in history.
The Hotel Novo Mundo was built in 1950 in preparation for Rio de Janeiro’s hosting of the 1950 World Cup. In the decade after its completion, it served as the unofficial residence of heads of state on official visits to Brazil’s capital. In the years following the move of Brazil’s capital to Brasilia, Hotel Novo Mundo was one of Rio de Janeiro’s most storied Palace Hotels. Pele was a hotel guest on the evening that he celebrated scoring his thousandth goal.
The building has been refurbished for student use, including the installation of a rooftop pool and outdoor deck area–which had been included in the prior owners’ designs but was only implemented in 2020.
