October is a month of many commemorative dates. Before Halloween closes the month, it is tradition in many places around the world to carry out Oktoberfest, parties inspired by German tradition and filled with lots of beer and typical food from the country of Adidas and Puma.
And of course we wouldn't let this date go unnoticed here at Uliving. So last week we made our own Oktoberfest editions, with everything the occasion calls for.
But before we tell you how the parties were, Do you know how and why Oktoberfest came about?
At the beginning of the XNUMXth century, in the territory of Bavaria, which would later become part of present-day Germany, King Ludwig von Bayern married Princess Sachsen-Hildburghausen and threw a large wedding feast. The guests? The entire city, from the noblest to the common population.
The party consisted of parades, horse races and, of course, food and drink. Behold, the party was considered a landmark of the year in the city and the participants decided to recreate the festival the following year. Since then, in October every year, the very traditional Oktoberfest takes place in Munich (state capital), which has been exported to several countries around the world.
Brazil hosts the largest Oktoberfest outside Germany in the world: Blumenau. Although the city in Santa Catarina was not the first in the country to organize its Brazilian version of the festival, it is where the biggest Oktoberfest in the Americas takes place. According to estimates, there are more than 700 thousand people in the last edition and more than 450 thousand liters of draft beer and beer.
Na Uliving 433, the party took place on a Friday night, on the rooftop of the unit, with an icy wind that was clearly not enough to scare away our residents. Especially because if cold beer and beer were not a good combination, Germany would not be one of the countries that drink the most delicacy in the world – according to a 2018 estimate, an average of 96 liters of beer is consumed per year by each German citizen, placing the country in third place on the list of largest consumers. In front of the European giant only the cold Poland and the Czech Republic.

Oh, and of course: there was food. As usual, typical sausages were part of the menu, as well as various types of grilled sausage. The origin of this is, of course, the medieval periods and the history of the country. Pork is very common in Germany, in addition to sausages and seasoned sausages being a tradition. This is because, in the past, it was necessary to somehow store surplus meat that was not consumed immediately. There they put various delicacies to disguise the flavors of decomposition. Of course, nowadays the process is much more hygienic and less dangerous, but the appreciation for the flavor and seasonings are what made the delicacies remain on the plates until today.
João Vitor, a resident of Uliving 433, is from the city that hosted the first Oktoberfest in Brazil. “As there was a change in the number of residents, it served as a moment of relaxation and integration and came in handy as a moment to meet the new residents.”, was what he said about the event.
And according to him, Oktoberfest served “(…) to strengthen bonds with the residents who were already here in the building and create new bonds. And I think it fit well with Uliving’s Community proposal”.
Another place that had a lot of food, including traditional sausages and sausages, was Uliving Rio. There, the party took place in the middle of the afternoon of a sunny Saturday. Draft beer was installed on the rooftop and, of course, there was a lot of music and food.
The crowd got excited: even people with typical costumes showed up there. Vini, who is our resident dedicated to the event and a figure stamped in absolutely everything that happens at Uliving Rio, spoke a little about what he thought of the event:
“We got into the mood, had a chopp with the guys, and it was super cool. We managed to interact with a new crowd here at Uliving and managed to insert people into our conversation”. The only difficulty they went through was “the difficulty of finishing the barrel of draft beer”. That's easy, right?
E na Uliving Jardins, Saturday lunch itself was different. O Gomo Bar & Cafe, which was installed inside the unit for residents, some roasted spices were served, such as chicken wings with a special seasoning and a sausage with curry ketchup. Too much, right?
And of course, a good drink was not left out: there was draft beer, IPA and lager, to please all tastes, and Wit beer – the traditional Belgian beer that won the world for its citrus flavor and its touch of wheat. Héctor, a resident of Uliving Jardins, said that “Even though we are living here in South America, feeling and experiencing a European culture, like Germany, is really cool.”
“It's a gastronomic and cultural experience that the environment offered, the music… all of that is really cool. We managed to try one of their typical dishes, and having a bar at home, with professional chefs is a more. That's why the Oktoberfest experience is even better.”
And there was even praise for the Jardins team, which is incredible “And you [Uliving] have a team that is very willing to work and always do things with a lot of hard work, with a lot of affection, and that makes us [residents] feel very loved.”
